nightlife more and more under pressure for a variety of reasons and city hall in my view and my city government still takes an over reactive view towards nightlife instead of a more balanced view. we know historically what it's meant for our community for young people, four music lovers, for people in the lgbt community. we are at a crossroads and we have to make a choice whether we want to be a city that continues to attract young people here, whether we want to be a city that wants to continue to attract the creative class here, creative whether they are raiders or tech folks. the reason why so many people come is because we have those cultural resources including nightlife. if we continue on the path where we are which is to put continuing pressure on that and making it more harder and more complicated and more expensive for anyone to offer nightlife to our city, we are going to suffer in the long run and we'll become a beautiful and very quiet city and very peaceful for everyone but it won't be the interesting place that it is today. on the san francisco political spectrum of either liberal

it's a slow process when you are trying to work with state government on that kind of thing because of the fact that you have to deal with contracted bidders who are going to be handling yourself, but not only yourself like a small agency that we are but some of the larger ones as well. so finding that middle ground and making those things happen is difficult but we are trying to get our business platform as we go forward. it's been kind of an interesting year for us. as many of you probably know, medicinal marijuana is the talk of the day at the state legislature. there is a bill pending right now that would put the abc correctly in the crossroads if you will of the effort calling on us to become the regulators of medicinal marijuana dispensaries. i can't and won't answer any opinions about that because we haven't been told how we feel about it yet. we are working very closely with the legislative leaders on it and the governor's office and the bill's sponsors and some of the stake holders to have ourselves prepared in case -- we maybe as soon as january 2014 have that task within our

our point is that sometimes you get confuse d with government installed cameras which has other rules and cameras installed in businesses. epa -- even if we don't ask that, it's up to the petitioner themselves to install that. it's an approach to deal with alcohol related issues. as you may or may not know, if there is an abc condition, you can come back within two years and modify that condition. not one person has asked to have their surveillance equipment or language struck from their conditions. it's mostly hours or some other conditions. i think what the panel said there that it's an opportunity. when a petitioner calls and says how can i protect my business? i suggest cameras. it kind of diffuses the situation if there is an allegation of misconduct by an employee. in fact we had one nightclub there was a homicide and that video was able to prove it was a justifiable homicide. we are going back to as what the supervisor said that we are crafting the language and softening the language and we are looking forward to doing business with any applicant in the future as well. the bott

the government has been a phenomenal partner for us. that the agencies -- the fact that you have hhs and ed and justice working together and collaborating it's been one of the most generous partnerships in my 30 years in the business that i have ever seen and i spent a good time in public broadcasting and partnered with the department of ed for years and i have to say this project of all the projects and nobody says no. everybody stands up and says "how can i help?" . there is also on our website a half-hour documentary and proud to say it was introduced by president obama. it was on cartoon network in career and yours for the download and i would like to show you one of the shorts that speaks specifically to what kids ask for which is show me what to do. in the television business we thought we knew what and kids ask that and we have the cartoon network and have the characters. we will do great animated shorts. we did pilots and tested them. kids watched them and i will never forget this as to say "you're tall but you're not that smart
